I have an idea for making publicly traded reputations a reality. The original idea comes from the book "Accelerando". The basic premise is that anyone can add or detract from a persons electronically tracked reputation. I.e. If a person does something good (volunteers, donates, helps someone, etc.) anyone can log into a public website and add (or detract) from that person's reputation. This would require a dedicated server, a lot of electronic storage space, and a staff to maintain the public website. Frankly, I don't have these resources but I'd love to see the idea come to fruition. The practical upshot is that it encourages people to do good in order to see their reputation rise. Also, since the website is public, anyone can see your reputation and activities giving anyone the ability to be famous. This would make the desire to see one's reputation rise very strong. It should be free and could possibly be integrated with current social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
